Items to Bring to ISSB

[ The short answer ]

Before the tests begin, it is important to know exactly what to carry to the ISSB. Candidates are advised to bring the following items while joining the ISSB.

Apparel / Dress for Female Candidates

  • At least one set of dark-colored tracksuit and sports shoes with socks.
  • At least two round-neck, half-sleeve vests (T-shirts).
  • For the Written Test and DP's Interview, bring at least two sets of formal salwar kameez (three-piece), along with socks and shoes as per your preference. A cardigan, suit, or blazer may be used during the winter season.
  • For night stay, bring necessary clothing of your own choice.
  • Waistcoat, if you own one (used for mess or dinner dress code).
  • Sandals or comfortable closed shoes for off-duty hours.

Apparel / Dress for Male Candidates

  • According to the candidate's preference, two sets of polo T-shirts (collared T-shirts), shorts/trousers, and sports shoes with socks. However, care must be taken to ensure that the clothing is suitable for outdoor tests.
  • For the Written Test and DP's Interview, bring at least two sets of formal attire, such as full-sleeve shirts, trousers, and ties, along with socks and shoes as per your preference. A suit or blazer is required only during the winter season.
  • At least one pair of sports shoes and one pair of formal shoes.
  • For night stay, bring necessary clothing of your own choice. Also bring 3 t-shirts and 3 trousers for dorm, plus jersey, pullover or sweater in winter and sunscreen if outdoor tasks run long.
  • Formal shirts light or white color, 2 sets minimum in bag plus 1 wearing, formal pants 2 sets in bag plus 1 wearing, tie plain conservative color like navy, maroon or black, avoid loud patterns, belt should match shoe color, formal black or dark brown leather shoes well-polished closed-toe, formal socks matching shoe color not white sports socks, 3 pieces of underwear in bag plus 1 wearing.

Utility Items (For All Candidates)

  • Towel, handkerchief.
  • Writing materials. Red and Black Pen, Pencil (2B), Eraser, etc. Also bring 3 to 4 black or blue ballpoint pens for forms and one ruler for Planning test.
  • Sandal shoe and sandals or slippers for indoor and off-duty hours, since you will be living on-site for 4 days.
  • White shorts or half-pants 2 sets, White polo shirts 2 pieces, White socks 2 to 3 pairs, canvas shoes or joggers 1 pair sturdy for obstacle course, 1 pair formal leather shoes you will be wearing on arrival, 1 pair canvas shoes for PT and 1 pair sandals for indoor.
  • Grooming kit: razor, shaving cream or gel, aftershave, daily clean shave is expected for male candidates, nail clipper, nails must be trimmed and neat, comb or hairbrush, toothbrush, toothpaste, soap or body wash, small shampoo, do not use someone else's toiletries in shared bathroom, deodorant or perfume avoid strong scents, small mirror if you want, hair band or safety pins for female candidates, Odomos or similar mosquito repellent.
  • Health and personal: prescribed medication with prescription, basic first-aid including band-aids and pain reliever, reading glasses or contact lens supplies if needed.
  • Money and bag: some cash for canteen or gift shop, avoid large sum as it is flagged as restricted, simple wallet not flashy, and one mid-size travel bag or duffel for 4 days. Overpacking bulky items is a hassle between test areas.

Academic Documents (For All Candidates)

  • Certificates (Original/Provisional).
  • Mark Sheets.
  • Any other relevant documents or certificates. Also bring call-up letter printed, you are turned away without it, keep on top in a plastic sleeve, National ID Card original if you have and Birth Registration Certificate, higher qualifications like Bachelor's or Master's if relevant, a few photocopies of all the above, and passport-size photographs 6 to 8 copies.

Prohibited Items

Candidates must not bring the following items to ISSB.

  • Camera (All types) and any recording device and Audio Visual Devices.
  • Mobile Phone.
  • Fire Arms and sharp objects or knives.
  • Pet or Animals.
  • Digital or Smart Watch.
  • Cigarette, Lighter or E-cigarette.
  • Medicine without Prescriptions.
  • Jewellery or Valuable Items, heavy jewelry and large amounts of cash or valuables and Alcohol or any banned substances.
